FortiClient VPN - Unlicensed VPN Error
Summary
After installing or updating FortiClient the application can lose connection to the "EMS" or appear unlicensed or "Disconnected". This prevents connection to the VPN. You will need to use the FortiClient VPN to secure your online activity, change your password on older computers and access internal resources (shared drives, etc). This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to resolve this issue.
Symptoms
After installing or updating the VPN you may be unable to connect put in your credentials as normal. You may see an error message that states, "Please contact your administrator or connect to EMS for license activation" or you may see a page that states FortiClient is "Disconnected" and prompting for a "Server address or Invitation Code".

Procedure
- Click on the Zero Trust Telemetry from the menu the left-side of the application

- Type in the address “ems.jbsinternational.com” in the entry field, and then click the Connect button shown below:

- Select Accept on the pop-up message that appears stating "The EMS you are registering to uses an untrusted certificate. Trust the certificate and continue?"

- After a few moments the EMS should now be connected, and the page will update to the following:

- If you are unable to connect to the EMS, please contact the IT Helpdesk for assistance. Make a note or screenshot of any error messages that are received.
