Approved Browsers - Exporting & Importing Bookmarks
Summary
Importing and exporting bookmarks can be a useful way to backup or transfer your saved websites and favorite web pages from one browser to another. In this article, we will guide you on how to export/import bookmarks for Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. Exporting and importing bookmarks provide flexibility, convenience, and data security by enabling backup, transfer, synchronization, sharing, and advanced management of bookmarked websites across browsers and devices.
Use Cases
-
Backup and Restore: Exporting bookmarks allow you to create a backup of your bookmarked websites, ensuring that you don't lose them in case of data loss or when switching to a new device or browser. You can then import the exported bookmarks to restore them in your browser. OneDrive will automatically back up favorites from Microsoft Edge, but any bookmarks or favorites from Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome need to be backed up manually in order to be able to restore them to another computer.
-
Switching Browsers: When you switch to a different web browser, exporting bookmarks from your current browser and importing them into the new one allows you to transfer your saved bookmarks seamlessly.
-
Sharing Bookmarks: Exporting bookmarks allows you to share them with others. For instance, if you want to recommend a collection of websites to a friend or colleague, you can export your bookmarks and share the exported file with them. They can then import the bookmarks into their browser and access the same websites.
-
Organization and Management: Exporting bookmarks provides an opportunity to organize and manage them outside of the browser. You can use the exported bookmarks file to restructure, edit, or remove bookmarks more conveniently using text editors or dedicated bookmark management tools. Once you've made the desired changes, you can import the modified bookmarks back into the browser.
