Excel - Requires Multiple Clicks to Open

Summary

When attempting to open Excel it may require more several more clicks that usually to open the application. This article covers an easy-to-follow workaround to resolve this issue.

Symptoms

In some cases, Excel will not open from the taskbar and requires searching for the application in the start menu. There is also difficulty in opening the multiple Excel windows at once. In other cases it may take a full reboot to open the application. If you are experiencing this issue, Excel will prompt to open in safe mode in the initial launch of the application.

Procedure

Open the Excel application
Navigate to File -> Options -> Advanced
Scroll down and navigate to the "Display" section of Advanced settings. All the sections are in bold font
Check the box for "Disable hardware graphics acceleration"
Select "Ok" in the bottom right corner then close and re-open Excel
